My First Car Accident

Recently, I got into my first car accident. Up until now, it was probably the single, most, scariest event of my life. As I’m driving down the road after school to pick up my brother from the other campus, there was a major bump in the road. I proceeded to slow down and cross the bump carefully. However, to my surprise a student came running in-between two buses and unto the side of my car. I then slammed my breaks and got out of my car to see if the kid was alright. He was lying on the floor.

My rear view mirror was dangling down and he had scrapes all over his knees. I asked him if he was alright and he nodded, “Yes.” He then picked himself up and left.

In a panic to get out of the middle of the street, I started the car and drove to the end of the road. I pulled over and asked my friend Katie to call the police. I ran to the campus to get my brother and tell him what had happened.

When I got back to the car, the cops were there and thankfully, I had known them from a prior experience (someone had stolen my iPod). They immediately asked if I was okay and I said, “Yes.” They let me go since the kid had apparently run off.

As we began to drive home, the police flagged us down and requested that we go back to do a report because the kid showed up.

My heart flew with panic because I had figured I was done. The police reassured me I was not in trouble. After a few hours of filling out crash reports and several warnings of driving without my license, they finally let me go with a report that stated it was the fault of the pedestrian. Not only that, I was given zero tickets for my two unlawful offenses.

I came home in panic with tears strolling down my face. I was so full of gratitude. I realized how truly blessed I was that God had his hand of mercy upon me throughout that entire situation. I was thankful nothing happen to the kid and that there was no major incident. I think all too often we don’t realize that God is holding us in the palm of his hand and keeping us safe and out of trouble. I don’t know that we will ever fully understand the amount of grace and mercy God has given us, and perhaps we are not meant too.

We should always step back and realize that everything is in God’s hands. He will lift us up and carries us through every trauma and situation. I will forever glorify Him, for I know that he will always take care of me.

Sit back and take a deep breath because we are children of the most High God.

Teen Parenting? No Excuse: Motherhood is a Ministry

ministry motherhoodMy success as a mother depended on the sermon my life would preach. ~ Cheryl Lacey Donovan

“Our children are crying out for our love, our attention, and our help. There’s a war going on between us and the world. The spoils of war are our children’s hearts, minds, and souls. We no longer have the luxury of leaving our parenting responsibilities to others. We, as mothers, must become accountable to ourselves, our children, and our God for the blessing He has placed on our lives by giving us children. If not, we will continue to lose generations.” Read more

Resurrection of Dreams

dreams“The hand of the LORD was upon me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the LORD and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said, “O Sovereign LORD, you alone know.” – Ezekiel 37:1-3

The Hole Gospel

the-hole-gospel“Preach the Gospel always. Use words if necessary.” – St. Francis of Assisi

It’s 1998 and Richard Stearns’ heart is breaking as he sits in a mud hut and listens to the story of an orphaned child in Rakai, Uganda. His journey to this place took more than a long flight from the United States to Africa. It took answering God’s call on his life, a call that hurtled him out of his presidential corner office at Lenox-America’s finest tableware company-to this humble corner of Uganda.

This is a story of how a corporate CEO faced his own struggle to obey God whatever the cost, and his passionate call for Christians to change the world by actively living out their faith. Using his own journey as an example, Stearns explores the hole that exists in our understanding of the Gospel.

Two thousand years ago, twelve people changed the world. Stearns believes it can happen again.

It’s Been Nailed to the Cross

He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.” Col 2:13-15 (NIV)
