Woman on a Mission

IWM is proud to present Danette Joy Crawford as this month’s “Woman on a Mission.” Danette is a speaker and author of a new book release, “Don’t Quit in the Pit: Power to Turn Any Situation Around!”

In addition to being a single mother, Danette is a graduate of Lee University, magna cum laude, with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and a minor in Bible. She later earned her Masters of Arts in counseling at Regent University.

Danette also has a television ministry, Joy in the Morning with Danette Crawford, which is a syndicated program reaching over 165 million homes each week in the U.S. and around the world. She has been featured on ABC, CBS, NBC and the 700 Club, Living the Life, Paula White Today, TBN, as well as in numerous newspapers and magazine feature articles.

In 1989, Danette founded Joy Ministries, an evangelistic outreach where she serves as the organization’s president. This ministry has adopted 10-12 inner-city neighborhoods in which they have established after school “Kids Clubs” and “Lighthouse Learning Centers.” These are a safe place for kids to interact and also receive free homework assistance. Joy Ministries also offers summer reading camps. These are designed to empower at-risk children through an intensive reading program which has proven to increase a child’s reading skills by 1 to 3 levels. This is truly a ticket out of poverty for these children.

I recently had the distinct pleasure of speaking with Danette and I must say she is one dynamic woman who is certainly fulfilling her mission to empower others with the message of hope. We spoke about her latest endeavor, a very powerful book, “Don’t Quit in the Pit: Power to Turn Any Situation Around!”

“Don’t Quit in the Pit” is a source of encouragement with a roadmap of directions to readers who feel trapped in a dark pit with no way out in sight. The author was a former “pit-dweller” and she gives story after story of God’s hand pulling her out of that pit – stories that build the reader’s faith in God and offers biblical, practical counseling which is vital for a life of victory.”

In our interview, Danette says that many are in a pit right now and they need to be determined not to quit, but rather be determined to get out. She believes that this book will extend them a “rope of hope”, and they need to grab it and get out of their pit!

Danette has had her share of personal pit stops, but was determined they would be temporary. Likewise, we must understand that our pit “experience” is not supposed to destroy us or keep us there. Danette explained that there are so many pits we can fall into….pits of destruction, fear, depression, financial pits and rejection.

For Danette, rejection had been a huge stronghold in her life but she had to learn to become “rejection proof.” How did she do this? By learning to understand and know who she truly was in Jesus Christ. Danette further explains that there are two kinds of rejection.

• Actual rejection
• Perceived rejection

The first type of rejection usually occurs when someone suffers a traumatic blow such as, being abandoned by a spouse or a parent. This is a “genuine” feeling. But, there is also a “distorted” perception about a situation that took place or, of our own selves, which may deceive us and lead us straight into a pit of rejection. Either way, Danette’s book reaffirms that there is a way out!

I too believe that many of us who love God and even serve Him, “secretly” feel trapped in a pit. I have been there myself. But, it’s time for us to take full advantage of the power of the Word of God and allow it to become real in our own lives. The enemy would love to stop us from experiencing the peace and the joy of the Lord. He wants to take us hostage and make us think there is no getting out because if we believe we are defeated, we are (“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he” Prov. 23:7).

Beloved, it is time for us, the Bride, to “Arise and Shine” once again! If you are caught in a cycle of despair or destruction, and have felt there is no way out, please get a hold of this book!
