It’s Time to Let Go

by Mia Green

Are you the type of individual that holds onto an old trend or style just because it worked for you 20 years ago? When you look at old pictures of yourself do you find that your makeup looks exactly the same today as it did back then? If you’ve answered yes to those questions then I must say that its time to let it go! Re-invent yourself. Create a new look for yourself; the times have changed, and you have too so allow your sense of style to reflect who you are and what you represent today not who you were 20 years ago.

Teens

If you are in your teens then you want to keep your makeup light, simple, and clean. You want to wear minimal foundation (to allow the youthful glow of your skin to shine through without the heavy application of foundation) light to medium mascara and lots of lip gloss. This will allow you to put your best face forward.

Twenties and Thirties

If you are in your twenties and thirties you can be the most versatile with your makeup. A light to medium (depending on the condition of your skin) application of foundation will serve you best. Lots of mascara will open up your eyes, and if you choose you can have fun with bright and bold shades of eye shadows, shimmers, and glitter, various shades of eyeliner, and beautiful bold lipsticks. The world of makeup is yours so have fun and explore a look that fits your sense of style.

Forties and Fifties

If you are in your forties and fifties the natural earth toned look mixed with bold accents will serve you best. Medium to heavy foundation will cover most of your skin’s flaws if you need the coverage; just make sure that you are using a foundation that is your proper shade so you don’t have the appearance of wearing a mask.

You can take a soft shadow and blush and pair it with a bold and striking lip or vice versa. You want to stay away from really wearing a bold eye and lip together because at this stage in your life if not applied properly it may seem like you’re trying to recapture the youth of your past and that is never a good look for a mature or seasoned woman.

The Golden Years

If you are in your “golden years” then you too want to keep your makeup light, simple and, clean. You don’t want to wear too much foundation because it has a tendency to settle in the fine lines and exacerbate the appearance of wrinkles. You want to wear soft nude shadows on your lids and light coats of mascara.

Keep your lips lined with a flesh toned lip liner, and keep your lipstick or lip gloss light not too heavy and not too bright. Accentuate your cheeks with a blush that helps to bring color to the face and you’re sure to be placed in the category of what I like to call timeless beauty!
