THE VELVETEEN REDEEMER
by Tammi Ector Fisse
My children and I love the children’s classic, The Velveteen Rabbit or How Toys Become Real by Margery Williams. Though it was written nearly a century ago, its nursery magic still has the power to spellbind the hearts of 21st century readers, young and old, whether they’re experiencing it for the first time or the book is a dear friend visited countless times over the years. The last time we read it, my son had just hurt my feelings. I read as tears streamed from my “mommy eyes”. I could relate to how painful the process of becoming Real can be.

I love it, Tammi! So true! I thought of how you enjoy “shabby chic” style!!! We were cleaning out the basement recently & my daughter didn’t want to give away ~ no one would want it anyway as it’s so shabby~ a little pink bunny her Great Grandpa gave her! It’s fur is all balled up, has a little tiny dried up marshmallow stuck in it’s mouth & it’s eyes are partially “injured” as she was fascinated w/how they opened & closed! It’s in her box of stuff to keep~for keeps!!! Love you, Terry
Tammi,
As I read your Velveteen Redeemer, I was struck of how all our trials that we walk through tend to cause us to see how big and loving our God is to us to provide a way to victory. With every victory, as we reflect on God’s love for us, it causes each of us to love Him more and more. I also see how He gives us the revelation of His love for us which is such a wonderful gift that we do not truly appreciate until He opens our eyes of understanding of this.
Thanks so much for sharing and being a tool that God uses to open our eyes to see His Love for us! Gail
