“Doubt discovers difficulties which it never solves; it creates hesitancy, despondency, despair. Its progress is the decay of comfort, the death of peace. ‘Believe!’ is the word which speaks life into a man, but doubt nails down his coffin.” C.H. Spurgeon
The Day When Doubt Took Hold might be a fitting way to describe the long-range aftermath of September 11, 2001, that most horrific, lifestyle-altering date! In the years since that mind-boggling day, life in America has not been the same — nor will it ever be. More than the First and Second World Wars, as horrible as they were, more than Korea and Viet Nam, more than the constant nuclear threat of the Cold War, the 9/11 attacks brought home to us the uncertainty of the continuity of our way of life, not so much as individuals, but as a nation.
