Inspirational Ink: Insight for a Woman’s Life
In Memory of Whitney Houston
by Tammi Ector Fisse
“Whitney Houston, Dead at 48”. Like most of the world, I was devastated by the headline. The moment I heard the news, I jumped online and searched for the circumstances surrounding her death. My curiosity wasn’t driven by a morbid desire to get the “juicy details” but by my need to know why? Why was someone so beautiful and gifted dead at such a young age? For the rest of the evening, much of the following day and into that night, I remained glued to the TV, only to hear sickening speculation about how drug abuse may have been the cause of death. As I followed the media coverage (“Nancy Grace” and other shows I’d never given a moment’s consideration) and watched Whitney’s music videos on BET (Black Entertainment Television), I vacillated between mourning and joy. Mourning for the Whitney I felt I’d grown up with and grieved over like a friend; joy because I can’t listen to that voice God blessed her with and not believe that Whitney loved the Lord and has hastened to His throne.
